A
s 2016 begins I am finding that the antiques market continues to grow stronger with some prices creeping back up from the lows of the recession. Furniture continues to remain soft, so I am pleased that I am able to concentrate on the smaller accessories.

The mid-century market is still growing in popularity too, and it is amusing to find that some of the items I grew up with are now in demand. It's a sure sign of age creeping up on me.

I continue to enjoy finding treasures for sale in local homes, and I appreciate being contacted for house calls. That is my main source of inventory, so please do not hesitate to call me or email me to discuss any items you are hoping to sell. I especially enjoy silver and porcelain, but I purchase a wide variety of items. Some recent oddities include magic lantern movie slides from the 1920's and a Boston Traffic Commission lantern from the early 1900's. I am always happy to discuss what you have and enjoy researching the market for the oddities too.

I have been in the antiques business for more than 30 years now and look forward to many more. After 11 years as an auction manager, I decided to open my own shop and ended up in Norwood, Massachusetts. For 14 years I had a storefront in the downtown section where I offered a variety of goods from local estates. I also had a space within a group shop in Waltham for many of those years.

At the end of 2007 I made the tough decision to close my storefront. I found that the antiques business was changing and that eBay was becoming a stronger place to market particular items. I felt I needed to shift my business in a different direction and closing my store was part of that shift.

After 2007 I continued to buy and sell antiques through a Waltham group shop, on eBay, and through direct contact with collectors. In 2012 I took shop space within the WinSmith Mill Weekend Market in Norwood. Finding this versatile space compliments my business perfectly, and I'm excited about the energy that has been generated by all the dealers in the complex. In 2014 I opened an online store on RubyLane.com and have found it to be a good additional market. I now have a shop on Etsy too and the balance of the three online spaces is working well. Just like the antiques business itself, I continue to change with the times, and I enjoy seeing what comes next.
